We’ve come over all spooky here in the Zeal offices – indeed ever since watching the latest Walking Dead episode this week ‘survival’ has been a bit of a buzz word around here!! Last week we had this article published in the Athlone Advertiser, all about the minimum things you need to really be using to market your business online…
Its no secret that the internet is taking over the world, it is everywhere – in your office, your house, on your tv, on your phone. Information is readily available to us at the touch of a button, anytime anywhere. Lots of local businesses are already online and harnessing the power of the internet to bring them more customers and increase sales. However many business don’t get involved with online marketing usually for fear of cost, lack of knowledge of what to do, and being worried about change. These are the guys for whom survival is an issue, there is only so far that ‘word of mouth’ and ‘local presence’ can take a business and relying on these as marketing will lead to a slow and painful death for your company.
So, if you are worried about surviving 2017 and thinking about some new marketing – here’s the basic things to consider;
- A website. Without a website you are missing out on hundreds if not thousands of potential customers per year. Your website should be the foundation on which you build up your marketing strategy and plan. It’s where you can spread the message far and wide about what makes your business unique and tell people why they should buy from you or use your services. It’s where people can find out about you, contact you and even buy your products online at any time of day or night. Crucially they can also find out where you are located and how to get in touch. A website is also now a marker of credibility, research from google shows that people will engage with the business with the better website vs a dated one, and in a business with no online presence people are hardly bothering to engage at all. Any business without a website already is going to struggle in 2017 as more and more digital technologies are released so if you do nothing else, at the very least get your business its own website.
- A social media presence. Building on from your website it’s a great idea to have a linkedin, facebook, twitter or instagram profile. Its another sign of a legitimate and credible business. If your target demographic is aged between 18-55 chances are they are active on social media, so your business needs to be too. Facebook pages are a great place to refer people back to your website, give a glimpse into the day to day run of your business and express what is great about your business!
- Listings on online directories. Think Trip advisor if you are a restaurant, hotel or place where people can physically visit, or review centre if you are a service based business. When people are googling you (which they will be doing) you want to dominate that front page of search results, not only will having social media profiles help this but imagine how good it is for a prospective customer to look up your business and find a good review. The aim of the game is to be everywhere, the more people that know about your business and can easily find it – the more potential customers you have.
